Middle School Chapel

Shannon Weisenfels, Director of Spiritual Life and Community
Middle School Chapel is off to a great start. I love hearing the students sing and share their thoughts each morning. This trimester we are Sparking our Curiosity by studying the questions Jesus asked and the questions that were asked of Jesus in the Gospel of John. We’ve watched a couple of scenes from The Chosen to expand our imagination of what these scenes from the Bible might have looked like. For “Fun Friday” we are reading Bethany Hamilton’s Soul Surfer and playing praise and worship videos requested by students. In the coming weeks, students will have the opportunity to participate in the Middle School Chaplain’s Challenge. Completing both the fall and spring chaplain’s challenges comes with a reward at the end of the school year and hopefully encourages the spiritual growth of our students as they pray, engage Scripture on their own, and think about how to apply it to their daily lives. If you are interested in participating with your student, it could be a great point of conversation about faith at the dinner table or in the car. Look for a link in the Charger in the coming weeks.

Our fifth graders and new students had the smoothest first day of Eucharist I can remember. It is special to have the opportunity to look each student in the eye and offer the bread of heaven or the blessing of God. We’ve also had the privilege of blessing our August and September birthdays. The dates of birthday blessings in the coming weeks have been provided to your student’s advisor, so you should expect to hear from him or her with the exact date soon. Feel free to reach out to your advisor or to me about birthday blessings. In Middle School, our students often have mixed feelings about having their parents present, so I recommend you have a conversation with them ahead of time rather than surprising them in Chapel.

This year I am looking forward to beloved Trinity traditions like Lessons and Carols, learning about other faith traditions represented in our community, engaging in service together through BIGG projects and opportunities like Hope Invasion backpack ministry, and simply the privilege of worshipping together every day in All Saints Chapel. Thank you for entrusting your children to Trinity School. They bring me joy everyday. Come visit us in Middle School Chapel at 11:30am, and please reach out to me any time with questions.
