Middle School Instructional Aide Full-time, Non-Exempt

The Middle School Instructional Aide reports to the Head of Middle School. The Middle School Instructional Aide is expected to perform other duties as assigned beyond the responsibilities stated below and to support the school and its leadership in pursuit of the School's mission, values, and core competencies. This position begins in August 2025.
To ensure success in pursuing the School’s mission, the Instructional Aide should possess a deep commitment to and a passion for helping students and teachers. The Instructional Aide supports classroom teachers and students in grades 7 and 8 by providing academic assistance, classroom supervision, and individual or small group instruction. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with faculty and staff to create a supportive, inclusive, and academically enriching environment that meets the developmental needs of middle school learners.

Responsibilities
- Push into various classrooms to assist with instructional activities
- Work with small groups or individual students to reinforce learning objectives
- Supervise students during non-instructional times (e.g., transitions, lunch, recess, arrival/dismissal)
- Help prepare instructional materials and maintain organized classroom spaces
- Monitor and support students’ academic progress and behavior in coordination with teachers
- Foster positive relationships with students that support academic motivation and personal growth
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, teachers, and parents, as appropriate
- Substitute in classrooms when needed
- Uphold the school’s mission, values, and expectations for respectful and responsible behavior
- Attend required meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Middle School
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Prior experience working with middle school-aged students in an educational setting is highly desirable
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Patience, flexibility, and a positive, proactive attitude
- Ability to follow directions, manage time effectively, and maintain confidentiality
- Commitment to supporting the academic and social-emotional development of adolescents
- Familiarity with the culture of private/independent schools is preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
- Commitment to collaboration with instructors in other academic areas
- Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including composing and proofreading
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to establish priorities
- Ability to use applicable computer programs and technology
- Proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations
Physical Requirements

- Standing, walking, and sitting for long periods of time. Usually needed intermittently for brief and long periods of time. Frequency may vary depending on activities and location.
- Frequent reaching and hand dexterity for handling motor skills equipment and clerical tasks (such as handwriting, handling a clipboard, index cards, or notebooks, use of the telephone, keyboard, operating office tools and machines); manipulating small and medium size objects.
- Frequent bending during several hours while working with students. Usually performed for 5 to 30 seconds at a time.
- Some squatting/kneeling may be needed for specific activities.
- Able to lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds. Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
- May deal with stressful situations in the normal course of duties, including a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- The work environment is a standard office, classroom, gymnasium, and/or outdoor setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and/or outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and/or bodily fluids.
