Community Service at Trinity

Natalia Dueñas
Service to others is an important part of Trinity’s Mission.  Through community service, our students can see different perspectives, develop leadership skills, and learn how they can make a difference in the lives of others.  We want students to build the habit of noticing where help is needed and finding ways to contribute.

Our Upper School students have logged 7,061 hours of service!  Here are the current totals for each class:
  • Class of 2027:  3,092 hours
  • Class of 2028:  2,567 hours
  • Class of 2029:  1,080 hours
  • Class of 2030:  322 hours

Recently, our Upper School students joined the Lower School in donating cereal boxes to the West Texas Food Bank.  Other students have been busy helping Mrs. Merryman and Dr. McHale prepare science labs for the day’s classes.  During clubs, students in the Empty Bowls Club are making bowls with Mrs. Repnak.  The bowls will be sold later in the school year to raise money for the West Texas Food Bank.  Students are also volunteering at local hospitals and animal shelters and helping at the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center.  Looking ahead, students will also fill backpacks for Hope Invasion to support families during the Christmas holiday, continuing what has become a Trinity tradition.

We appreciate the time our students have given to serving others, and we look forward to seeing these totals continue to grow.

As we move through the fall, this is a good time for students and families to review the community service requirements and make a plan for the year.  Students attending Trinity for all four years must complete a minimum of 90 hours of service before graduation.  Freshmen and sophomores must complete a minimum of 20 hours per year, and juniors and seniors must complete at least 25 hours per year.  Requirements are prorated for transfer students.

Service must be completed through nonprofit organizations or other approved agencies, with hours verified by a supervisor through MobileServe.  Students may earn up to half of their annual requirement through Trinity-sponsored service.  While extra hours do not carry over from one year to another to meet the next year’s requirement, we certainly encourage students to serve beyond the minimum.

If a student is unsure whether an opportunity qualifies, they should ask before volunteering.  Students are responsible for scheduling, completing, and logging their service hours.  Students can check their approved hours in MobileServe, and parents can ask their students to share that information.  We also update myTRINITY with logged hours approximately once a month.

Students should email Mrs. Dueñas at nduenas@trinitymidland.org or stop by room 706 during t-block with any questions regarding service hours.
