Exploration of Light

During PreK-3’s exploration of light, the children became captivated by their shadows—watching them move alongside their bodies and wondering, “Can we catch a shadow?”

Using light-sensitive cyanotype paper, they arranged different materials and watched as the light left shadows behind, creating beautiful blue-and-white works of art.

Their investigation continued through shadow-puppet play, where shadows became stories of lizards chasing princesses and deer hopping into dump trucks! Through science, art, movement, and storytelling, the children discovered that shadows can be observed, changed, captured—and even turned into stories.
