Michael Wood '04

Michael Wood was born in Midland, Texas, in 1986 to Gary and Sue Wood.
Michael was baptized at Trinity Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the congregation throughout his youth, along with his parents and beloved grandmother, Gloria Watson. Michael came to Trinity School his junior year of high school and was a member of the choir and track and tennis teams, and starred on stage in school musicals. Additionally, Michael served as a prefect his senior year.  Throughout his teenage years, Michael was an active member of Midland Community Theatre’s Pickwick Players, where he appeared in several productions. As a Boy Scout, Michael remarkably reached the highest achievement possible, Eagle Scout. After graduating from Trinity, Michael attended New York University and double majored in Economics and History. Lieutenant Wood then deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 2010 and again in 2012, both times as a rifle platoon commander. After his second deployment, Michael was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Combat “V”) for “courageously [leading] a spoiling attack.” Michael was awarded two Purple Heart Medals for injuries sustained in combat during both his first and second deployment. After making the very difficult decision to leave active duty, Michael and his wife, Sarah, moved their family to Texas where Michael used the GI Bill to attend Southern Methodist University on nights and weekends to earn his MBA. In 2017, Michael was chosen to be a National Review Institute Regional Fellow. Working with other fellows, Michael founded the Lone Star Policy Institute (LSPI), a Dallas-based think tank that seeks to offer conservative policy solutions to major Texas metropolitan areas. Since 2016, Michael has also served as an infantry officer in the Marine Corps Reserves. In 2019, Michael was promoted to the rank of major. Michael has remained actively involved with his alma mater. He never misses a Trinity alumni gathering and has stayed in touch with former faculty. He has been on campus multiple times since his high school graduation to speak to students about his military service and has served on the Trinity Career Panel. Michael, Sarah, and their four daughters are members of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Keller, Texas.
